My primary intention is to restore this Verity’s Orbit Fan to working order, without breaking it more than it already is, and with an aesthetic close enough to the original to a level that satisfies me.

I’m not an expert or a professional, so I’m not going to prioritise authenticity over completion. Every additional detail that I fixate on adds more risk of me not completing this project. And if I get to a point where I’m so afraid of it not meeting my expectations, that I’ll likely just avoid finishing it altogether.

Now that’s out in the open(!), The original dusky beige of this fan doesn’t particularly appeal to me. It would probably fit in nicely if I were going to mount it above the milling machine or lathe in my garage. But this is staying in the relative safety of the house and I want it to stand out and look spectacular.

I do apologise if this is your picture. I saved it for reference when I first bought my Orbit fan and lost track of where I found it. Please let me know if you’d like it to be removed, or a link to your site.

Apart from the colour change, I’m planning to keep everything else as original as possible, I’ll make a decision whether to make or buy any missing or broken parts depending on how expensive they are to buy, how difficult they’ll be to make, or if there’s a specific technique that I’ve been wanting to learn or tool that I want to get use out of.

Which is why I’ll be changing the colour from dusky beige into the more common, but glorious jet black variant.

I started disassembling the fan yesterday, so the next post will cover some of the teardown.
